Hiking - Walking: Martlesham Creek Wind Direction: NE Wind Stength: Surf / Sea State: Air Temperature: Sea Temperature: Weather: sunny periods Max Speed: Distance Covered:
The Easter Holiday weather has been a bit of a let down, not much sunshine
and with the wind in the north a little on the chilly side:( After
yesterday when we did next to nothing we were keen to do something today.
Mags idea was to back a flask with some hot cross buns and head over to
Martlesham Creek via the big Tesco - big mistake :( There is a big retail
park there and we wanted to look in a craft shop, then Next then the
supermarket but it was absolute chaos! Firstly we queued for ages at the
roundabout leaving the A14 to join the A12, we had never seen so many
caravans! Then the car parks at the shops were mad, cars everywhere and we
hate shopping. After an wasted hour we had got our few bits and pieces we
headed to the creek for a cuppa with our hot cross buns. Then with the sun
just coming out we headed down the tree lined path to Martlesham Creek.
There were a few bluebells and the tide was fast approaching the houseboats
at the end. In stead of walking on the Woodbridge side to Kyson Point we
continued past the moorings along the creek to the River Deben. It was
lovely with top scenery and an amazing sky with Godwits feeding in the fast
disappearing mud, there was also a couple of Egyptian Geese in a field full
of shaggy sheep. We then headed inland past the freshly ploughed potato
fields to Martlesham church. Then back along the lane with the wood thick
with bluebells back down to the creek to the van. Then a nice drive the
back way to Felixstowe avoiding the holiday crowds. A quick check at The
Dip before going home we found a full set of Swains who had been
windsurfing but not much wind:( Then we spent a pleasant couple of hours
chatting with Mark and Glynis Smalling in their nice campervan. Then home
for a top chicken tea and fingers crossed for some wind tomorrow and not
too cold!
